I am Chua Jia Yu, a second-year student at Nayang Technological University (NTU) majoring in Civil Engineering.
During my three-month internship as a Civil Engineer at Hin Lee Contractor Trading Pte Ltd (HLCT), I have had the privilege of experiencing one of the most rewarding and motivational periods of my academic and professional journey. This internship has provided me with valuable exposure and insights that I believe will significantly enhance my understanding and application of engineering concepts in my future studies and career.
Working alongside the accomplished and committed team at HLCT has been an enlightening experience. The collaborative and supportive environment fostered within the company allowed me to engage with various aspects of civil engineering projects. I was fortunate to be involved in a range of activities that expanded my knowledge beyond what I had learned in my academic coursework.
One of the standout aspects of this internship was the guidance I received from my manager, Mr. John Tang. His expertise and willingness to share his insights provided me with a practical perspective on how theoretical concepts are applied in real-world projects. His mentorship encouraged me to think critically and creatively when facing engineering challenges, and I am immensely grateful for the time he invested in my growth.
Furthermore, the senior staff that I was shadowing, Ms. Khine Thinzar Nway (Mei Yun), played a pivotal role in enhancing my learning experience. She introduced me to the techniques and practices that often aren’t covered in traditional classroom settings
Learning from her experience gave me a more well-rounded understanding of civil engineering, allowing me to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation.
HLCT’s company culture deserves special mention. The cohesive, friendly, and fun atmosphere made me feel like an integral part of the team from day one. The positive interactions and open communication among colleagues fostered a sense of belonging and camaraderie that I believe is essential for a productive and enjoyable work environment. This culture not only facilitated my professional growth but also made every day at the office an enjoyable experience.
As I reflect on my time at HLCT, I am filled with gratitude for the learning opportunities, supportive guidance, and the warm company culture that surrounded me.
This internship has reaffirmed my passion for civil engineering and has given me a clear direction for my academic and career aspirations. I am excited to carry forward the knowledge and experiences gained during these three months, and apply them in my future endeavors as a civil engineer.
